Oh my gosh!
I cannot believe it’s taken me this long to write this post… Actually I can (I’ve had a cra-zay July travel schedule) but I couldn’t miss the opportunity to give some major credit where it’s due & to share this little gem with all my local San Diego ladies!
I recently attended at Women & Whiskey event at Lionfish at the new Pendry Hotel. If you’re not familiar with the Pendry, it’s a super luxurious boutique hotel (seriously – it’s beautiful!) in the heart of the Gaslamp. They boast a beautiful pool & lounge The Pool House (one of my favorite happy hour spots in SD, I’ll have to do a recap soon), a nightclub – Oxford Social Club, and a few different restaurants.
My favorite restaurant on the property is by far Lionfish. They use local & seasonal ingredients to serve up modern coastal cuisine. Executive Chef, Jose “JoJo” Ruiz joined the team after being the Chef de Cuisine at Ironside over in Little Italy (another fav) and the menu is perfect for sharing a bunch of different sushi, seafood, and coastal dishes. Some of my favorites include the Big-Eye Tuna Pizza (#obsessed), Spicy Grilled Octopus, and the Keep It Classy roll. Check out the full menu here. The dining room is elegant and perfect for a girls night out dinner or a nice date.
So I was invited to this event by a friend and the second I saw the event invite, I was sold. If you don’t know yet, I’m originally from Lexington, Kentucky and bourbon is my spirit of choice so take my favorite drink hosted at one of my favorite restaurants and I’m there!
There were two large tables with probably 12 women at each. I ended up knowing another girl woman there so we grabbed seats beside each other and got ready for the awesome evening. We received the cutest goodie bags with two Maker’s Mark wax dipped glasses and then it was time to get to know the other women and just as importantly – taste some whiskey!
The Maker’s Mark Brand Ambassador, Megan Breuer started us off with a welcome cocktail – a Summery Maker’s Mark – and let me tell you, the drink was just as delicious as the garnish was cute.. I mean look at it!
We then went on to try samples of the Maker’s Mark, Maker’s Mark 46, and Maker’s Mark Cask while Megan talked to us about the history of the brand and the differences we were tasting. Did you know – ? – Bill Samuels Sr. created the recipe for Maker’s Mark but his wife Margie Samuels actually named the brand!
The kitchen at Lionfish sent out some food pairings throughout the evening including the Big Eye Tuna Pizza, Crispy Rock Shrimp, and a chocolate layered cake for dessert before we wrapped up the evening with another cocktail made with the Maker’s Mark 46.
It was a great night filled with whiskey (obvi), women (duh), many great tastings, photos (if you don’t post it how will everyone know you ate it?!), and laughs (wait till you see me try to Boomerang after so much whiskey!) and I’m already looking forward & praying I get invited to the next event in August. Word on the street is that oysters are on the menu!
A very big thank you to Arlene (for inviting me) and the amazing team that put on the event – Megan, Jennifer F, and Mia! 🙂
If you’re local to SD and want to stay in the know, be sure to leave me a comment and I’ll let you know when the next Women & Whiskey event is announced! I’d love to meet some of you in person!
